Take the maximum steady-state load current and add a safety margin:

• For constant-resistance heaters: +20 %.
• For variable-resistance elements (SiC, tungsten, transformer loads with heavy cold-start): +40 % to +50 %, considering inrush.
• Always consider the true RMS current, not just the average. Our datasheets provide derating curves based on ambient temperature and altitude.
