A snubber (series resistor-capacitor network) connected across each SCR pair limits the rate of voltage rise (dv/dt) and suppresses transient voltage spikes. Without proper snubbers, fast voltage transients from line switching or inductive loads can unintentionally trigger the SCR (“dv/dt turn-on”), causing erratic operation or even device failure.
